FitLine Generation 50+: What It Contains, What It Really Does and Who It's For

Generation 50+ in 30 seconds: this is the FitLine sachet designed for people past 50, and it is meant to be taken together with PowerCocktail, not instead of it. What Generation 50+ is

Generation 50+ is a powdered food supplement made in Germany for PM-International, using the company's NTC technology. If you read that table carefully, you will have spotted the important part: of the seven headline ingredients, only three carry authorised claims, and one of those (DHA) depends on the dose. That is not a defect in the product, it is European law being strict, and I respect it. Lutein, Q10, isoflavones and ginseng are ingredients with an interesting body of literature behind them, but nobody is allowed to promise you effects on vision, the heart or the menopause on a label.

How to take it

One sachet a day, dissolved in water, in the morning alongside PowerCocktail. A pack of 30 sachets covers a month. Orange and blackcurrant flavour, sweetened with stevia.

Who it's for (and who it isn't)

It makes sense for: people over 50 who eat little fish, since the algae DHA is the most concrete part of the formula; people who want a simple routine in a sachet and don't want to add separate Omega-3 capsules on top; and anyone looking for a product with no fish oil in it.

It's not for: anyone under 50, because there is nothing magic about the threshold, but the formula is built around requirements that increase with age; anyone eating oily fish two or three times a week and green leafy vegetables every day, since that already covers DHA and lutein; and anyone expecting effects on vision, memory or the menopause, because no supplement can promise that.

Contraindications and side effects

• Medication: anyone taking anticoagulants (because of the Omega-3), thyroid medication or hormone therapy (because of the soy isoflavones) should ask their doctor first.
• Soy allergy: it contains soybean extract.
• A history of hormone-sensitive tumours: isoflavones are phytoestrogens, so discuss it with your oncologist or your own doctor.
• Ginseng: it can interfere with anticoagulants and with some medicines; here too, ask your doctor.
• Children and pregnancy: not indicated.

Does it contain fish oil? No, the Omega-3s come from microalgae. It doesn't taste of fish.
